A retro parody of The Oregon Trail played in reverse: drive from Portland to Missouri in 2026, managing snacks, fuel, health and vibes across 1,990 miles and 97 random events, with three arcade minigames and tombstone epitaphs for fallen party members.
The Nogero Trail is a browser-based retro parody of the 1985 Apple II classic The Oregon Trail, played in reverse. Set in 2026, you leave an expensive Portland one-bedroom and drive 1,990 miles over 19 stops toward a cheaper four-bedroom in Independence, Missouri. You choose one of three professions (Laid-off Tech Worker, Barista with an MFA, Lifestyle Influencer) and one of three vehicles (a 212k-mile Subaru, a used Tesla, a van-life Sprinter), each changing money, risks and score. Along the way you manage snacks, fuel, health and vibes through 97 random events, and cross rivers by fording, floating, paying a guy, waiting or detouring, with two rivers now construction zones. Three arcade minigames are included: Fred Meyer Parking Lot Defense, Costco Sample Raid and Wyoming Wind. Party members can die of COVID, doomscroll despair or dysentery; you write their epitaphs, and later trips on the same browser show the tombstones. A weekly dare uses a fixed seed, and shared runs give friends the same starting luck. Free to play, solo-developed, playable on desktop and mobile with keyboard or touch.
